For the past month Dad has been busy designing an archery range for the local scouts group our boys attend.
Dad is a Beaver Leader for the group, and more recently he’s been leading this project, including hosting a community crowdfund to raise money for the materials.
Thanks to the generosity of the local community, businesses near and far, family and friends, the funding target of £2,500 has been hit, and it’s now into over funding….
“A huge thank you to everyone that has shared or pledged to our campaign… you did it! On behalf of 1st Fatfield Scout Group, our volunteers, and members we are extremely grateful and humbled by the response to this, our first, crowdfund.
An extra special thank you goes out to the pledge of an incredible £1700 who, although wanting to remain anonymous, has been in touch and told us it is a direct result of seeing our campaign they then shared internally within the company they work for who organised a whip round! Your generosity will not be forgotten!
As a result of seeing our campaign we’ve also had one adult enquire about becoming a volunteer with us which is also fantastic news – across the country there are approximately 60, 000 young people on waiting lists to join their local Scout Group and we’re so pleased we’ll be able to take a few more off our own.
We’re now enabled for over-funding as part of this crowdfund. This is to reach our stretch targets to make this facility ever better for generations to come!
Alongside those already mentioned on the crowdfund we’re looking at:
* incorporating floodlighting so it can be used on these long autumnal and winter evenings
* training more of our adult volunteers to lead these activities, e.g. with the Archery GB Tutor Award and NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Award
* making our premises even more accessible, in particular by providing access ramps into our main building for toileting and hygiene purposes
* providing wider and more level access paths, making our wider site more accessible to more people
Please keep sharing our campaign so we can now try and reach this stretch goals. And if there is anything here you can help us with, please get in touch!”
You can read more and follow updates for the project here. Of course if you’d like to join the 39 backers who’ve raised £2,612 so far, we’d very much welcome a contribution, however small. Likewise, if you’re able to share this post it will be much appreciated. The crowdsource is open until 31st November 2020.
Dad has also asked if you or anyone you know has experience in making disability access ramps or has a spare 20 tonne of 10mm gravel lying around, he’s keen to hear from you!
