Today Boys 2, 3 and I headed up the M6 motorway to meet their cousins, who were holidaying close to Carlisle in the North West.
This summer I’ve shared regular updates of what we’ve been up to during the school holidays – you can see a summary at our 2020: 42 Activities of Summer page.
Here are some pictures from another scorcher of a day:
We arrived just in time for lunch, and ate at Pizza Express with the Government 50% off deal. We were seated on a table for eight in the centre of the restaurant, and were well distanced from others. On arrival we had to alcohol gel ourselves, and scan a QR code to bring up a menu to order from. The boys were thrilled to have diet coke in real glass bottles.
Next we walked to Bitt’s park, and spent time in the play park before heading past an outside gym, through a garden, and along a river to a perfect spot for paddling. We spent a couple of hours chatting, splashing about, throwing rocks, and building two new dams which diverted the current river water into a fan shape. Great contributions from all (especially Aunty and Uncle – go grown ups).
What I hadn’t realised is that Carlisle Castle and Museum of Military Life (English Heritage) are right next to the park. We parked at CA3 8AN, which cost just over £2 from 12noon until 3pm (after that it was free).
Today was the last day of our Warrington holiday, and although we’ve had a great time, it’s nice to be safely back home with Dad and Boy 1.
Have you visited Carlisle or the surrounding areas? What are your top tips?
