2020: Activity 15 – Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Today Boys 2, 3, and I visited Grannie A at Yorkshire Sculpture Park on route to our holiday in Warrington.

This summer I’ve shared regular updates of what we’ve been up to during the school holidays – you can see a summary at our 2020: 42 Activities of Summer page.

“Shall we just have a small cake before we set off”?  Said Grannie A.  “Yes please” was the immediate enthusiastic puppy like response x 3.

Here are some pictures:

Yorkshire Sculpture Park is 20 miles south of Leeds in West Yorkshire (Postcode: WF4 4JX).  It’s family friendly, and has 500 acres of beautiful landscape with contemporary sculptures dotted throughout.  It costs £6 per adult, and under 18’s are free.  Booking is required, with guidance available on their website.

We’ve had an excellent day, and the sculptures prompted interesting discussion whilst we walked.  Several animals were tame – sheep crossed our path without a care, and two highland cows lay in the grass posing for photos. Grannie A was doing the Chris Packham Big Butterfly Count so we joined in too.  We saw lots, and she was pleased to capture an orange butterfly called a Gatekeeper on camera for the first time.

This seems a place each time you visit you’ll see something new.  I’d come back again.  Thanks Grannie A for suggesting it, for our lovely picnic which stretched out to tea, and for the Cheshire Ring map of canals.

Onwards to Warrington, where we’ve arrived safely, and have a brand new fan keeping us cool in our room.

Have you visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park?  Or any other quirky places?
