Today Boy 1 played saxophone at Look Open Mic Event on Zoom, organised by LOOK UK.
This summer I’ve shared regular updates of what we’ve been up to during the school holidays – you can see a summary at our 2020: 42 Activities of Summer page.
Last year Boys 1, 2, 3 and I spent three days at the first ever LOOKfest, a summer festival for visually impaired young people and their families in Herefordshire (you can read about this here). This year, a second LOOKfest was planned but has had to be postponed. Instead, LOOK organised an Open Mic event for two hours this afternoon.
There were 40+ families watching, and I was truly inspired by the talent. There was singing, band performances, and a range of instruments played including piano, drums, ukulele, guitar and oboe. Boy 1 played “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” on saxophone, which he’s been learning at school – a super proud moment.
One of the performers was a Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Sirine, age 15, who’ll be on telly in September. She was performing from a taxi in Turkey and was amazing. Another outstanding singer was Paige who is 18 and will be starting a music degree in September – her Instagram is Paige_does_covers. Thank you LOOK for a memorable event.
Earlier in the day we did our usual jobs after breakfast (the boys rotate hoovering upstairs, downstairs, and cleaning the bathroom in exchange for pocket money and a sweet treat during family film night), whilst I put away the mountain of clothes. This week the mountain was looking like Everest.
We’ve also packed for our trip next week. I was intrigued with Boy 3’s attempt which consisted of two pairs of pants, a shirt, two t-shirts, plus four times as many toys. I’ve included plenty of food and drink snacks so we have options if restaurants are too busy or don’t feel safe.
To celebrate I watched The English Patient, and then Dad was very pleased to find these bad boys at Costco:
Last year we saw them and thought we’ll get them nearer Halloween, but just two days later they were all gone from all stores across the UK, with no further stock planned. Not to everyone’s taste, and who knows where these will live – but it’s the small things 🙂
I hope you’ve had a good Sunday. What have you been up to?
