Today I had an indulgent child free morning with a friend at Roker beach.
This summer I’ve shared regular updates of what we’ve been up to during the school holidays – you can see a summary at our 2020: 42 Activities of Summer page.
I very much enjoyed my first ever chocolate orange scone from Fausto, sat in the sun. We then walked and talked, soaking up the summer holiday atmosphere. The sun was glinting on the waves, and even on the seaweed – which looked like hundreds of glitter balls doing what they do best.
I loved the smells of fish and chips, and the beachy sounds from seagulls, to waves gently lapping the sand, to children splashing in delight, to teenage phones playing the latest tunes for all to enjoy.
After my friend left, I still had an hour on the parking (it’s 60p per hour or £3 all day), and couldn’t bear to leave. I walked some more, with a big smile on my face, feeling totally free.
Here’s a Relive video of the route.
And some photos.
Back at home we had a lazy family afternoon. I watched Letters to Juliet whilst the boys played Roblox, and we had an evening walk before bed.
Have you been to Roker recently? Or any other good beaches?
