This evening I watched The Bodyguard at Sunderland Empire.
“Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge – what they don’t expect is to fall in love.” Sunderland Empire.
The show started with a bang (quite literally) as we were introduced to Frank Farmer, and then Rachel (Alexander Burke, X Factor winner 2008) sang “I’ve got the stuff that you want”.
It’s a bit less formal than the film – you get to hear Frank sing karaoke, and snog Rachel at the half way point.
There’s a second jump scare in the second half, and the hitman scenes are effective. The Oscars are also well done, with us as the audience. A laser points at us before Frank takes a bullet for Rachel.
Flashbacks of kisses are projected onto the screen at the end, and after the show the whole cast sing and dance All Night Long. 7/10.
