Summer 2019: Day 20 – Herrington country parkrun, Charming, and family film night
This summer I’ve posted what we’ve been up to each day of the school holidays – you can see a summary of our adventures at our 2019: 42 Days of Summer page.
Today was the second of two days of weather warnings. Compared to other parts of the country, we’ve had it mild, although one of our local parkruns had to plot out a new route as the path was completely flooded – full marks for going ahead though
Boys 1, 2 and I attended the Herrington country parkrun, and Boy 1 is now a member of the parkrun 10 club. He’s looking forward to receiving his free T-shirt notification (https://support.parkrun.com/…/200565303-What-are-the-10-50-…)
We then watched Charming at the cinema. This is a story about a prince who was cursed as a child. Every woman he meets falls in love with him, including Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. His father, the King, gives an ultimatum to find his real true love before his 21st birthday or lose all claim to the throne, and it’s on this journey, he gets to know a kick-ass maiden interested in him only for his money. The film has Avril Lavigne (Snow White) and John Cleese (Fairy Godmother). We all enjoyed it (6/10), and I particularly liked the songs.
On Saturdays, we’ve started to have a family film night with popcorn, and today we opted for Back to the Future (currently free on Netflix). Marty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown. I forgot how brilliant this film is (at least 9/10) – from the stepping back in time (clothes, pepsi, music) to the putting bullies in their place, and eccentricity. We can’t wait to watch the 2nd and 3rd installments.
