Northumberland County Show

On bank holiday Monday Boy 2 and I went to the Northumberland County Show for the first time.

It was a soggy day so a perfect excuse for brollies and wellies (always a highlight with our boys).  I was surprised how big the show was and how many had turned up despite the weather.  It was a great atmosphere.  There were lots of big tents to take shelter with various attractions, showgrounds, stalls and exhibitions.  There was live music all day, and the opportunity to book in for a planetarium show.

My favourite parts were watching the show jumping, seeing the animals including a baby owl, and seeing the Stickman walking about.  Boy 2 liked getting to sit in the fire engine, wearing a very large shark head (he started waving at people and didn’t want to take it off!) and having a go at hook the duck.

As there is so much scheduled, it’s not possible to see and do everything.  Something we missed that we’d like to see in a future year is the dogs waggiest tail competition.  People are welcome to bring their own dogs to the show and enter them in this and others talent categories.

What you need to know:

Location – Bywell Hall near Stocksfield, NE43 7AB, approximately 15 miles west of Newcastle and 7 miles east of Hexham off the A69.

Cost – £10 for adults, £5 for children, or £35 for a family (2 adults, up to 3 children).  We’d booked online which saved a pound each, and avoided a long queue on the day.   A programme was available for £3 on the day.

Next years show date: Monday 25th May 2020.

Have you been to the Northumberland County Show?  What do you like best?
