This afternoon I visited the cinema with good friend K to see the Aftermath. Set in post World War II, a British colonel and his wife are assigned to live in Hamburg during the post-war reconstruction, but tensions arise with the German who previously owned the house.
This is exactly our kind of film – oozing with romantic tension, and it cleverly tackles how deeply people can be affected by the loss of a family member, without realising the impact it has on others. I’d like to see this again.
Living with a Dad and three boys, I’m inundated with man/boy things so it’s especially good to spend time in female company. This film reminded me of two others we really enjoyed – Far from the Madding Crowd, and A Little Chaos. We like pretty much all good romantic feel good films, especially when they include Ethan Hawke, such as the Before Sunrise series and the more recent Juliet, Naked. 9/10.
What are your favourite films? Can you recommend any good romantic films?
